STU-TE Teacher Education Center
INTRODUCTION
In order to provide high quality teachers for kindergartens and other related industries.
Shu-Te University established the Teacher Education Center.  The Center trains its students with the spirit of the Teacher Education Act, and nurtures these future teachers with the features of  Shu-Te University. In addition, the Center also offers in-service teachers with channels fir further study to resolve the national issue of teacher shortage as well as to enhance the quality of these teachers.  Since the Academic Year 2000.  The Center to offer its service for the in-service professionals who have not yet obtained the Teaching Certificate.

 

VISION & OBJECTS
Combined with Shu-Te’s motto: ”Academic”, “Intellectuality”, “Happy” and “Hopeful”, the Teacher Education Center is committed to help students become a teacher with professional and practical knowledge, skills and attitudes.

The objects of the Center, as a result, are to establish an integrated academic network with Humanities, Art, Physical, Management, Information and Technology, and to improve the teaching efficiency and fulfill the instructional knowledge to increase the student’s learning competence.

 

Faculties Structure
The teacher of Teacher Education Center are all have doctor degree of our overseas.  They have professional equipment and teaching experience of kindergarten, senior high, junior, and elementary school.  Beside having high teaching enthusiasm and service spirit, they engage in academic researches and take part in many educational committees positively to understand deeply the new educational trend.

CURRICULUM
The compulsory and elective courses of the Teacher Education Center are designed in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Education.  The elective courses are designed according to the features and specialties of the university.  The current curriculum of preschool level teacher education is as follows:
Compulsory Courses:
A total of 20 credits

Elective Courses:


A total of 6 credits

C. Non-Class Courses:
Including social service, academic and art aesthetic activities.

 

The main enrolment channel
Our college student who can apply the examination of educational programs in condition of the top 40% study achievement in his department and over 80 points of the conduct scores he must have.  After the selection of oral exam, the student may be admitted to study education programs.
Another class of preschool education for refresher is recruited from

The on-the-job members of engaging in childcare and kindergarten teachers.  They have to begin their jobs until now before July 31. 2003.  They also must have qualifications of bachelorship, or recognized status as student of a certain college after graduated from junior college or after graduated from senior high school and have passed 32 general credit points in college now.

 

FUTURE PROSPECTS
In response to the demands of student who want to become qualified high school and primary school level teachers, the Center will apply for the establishment of those programs.
The Center will also provide educational credit courses for in-service teachers and for people with the bachelor’s degree.  The ultimate goal of the Center is to establish a graduate school of education.

 

PRACTICAL TRAINING AND ACQUIRING THE QUALIFICATIONS OF TEACHER
The term of studying educational programs is 2 to 4 years.  After taking 26 credit points of education at least, the students come to kindergarten to take part in practice teaching for a half year.  After they finish the practice teaching and pass the exam to get the qualification of teacher, they can apply the teacher job of kindergartens which need teachers.
